Recognizing the skills and productivity of persons with disabilities, more than 330 visually-impaired children gathered to join Junior Chamber International (JCI) Manila’s Visually Impaired Sports Training Advocacy (VISTA) Games last March 10, 2017 at the Marikina Sports Center.

Aiming to improve the overall well-being of the visually impaired children, the line-up of games for the event were Chess, Track & Field, Goalball, Modified Table Tennis and Swimming.

In addition, the event also promoted social awareness of sports events for the visually impaired based on accepted Paralympic standards.

“Through this project, we want to change the way society views visual impairment and remove negative stereotypes about it. We want to inspire hope. The event shows that visually impaired are capable despite being physically challenged,” Michael Vincent Uy expressed.

The event sponsors and partners were Cognizant Technology Solutions, Parents Advocates for Visually Impaired Children, Resources for the Blind Inc., Department of Education, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, National Council on Disability Affairs, Marikina City Government, Synergy88 Solutions, Manila Water, DZRH, Radyo Veritas, ABS-CBN and Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled.

Finally, the VISTA Games 2017 was handled by JCI Manila baby Jaycees: Eikon Conrad Javaluyas, Angelo Reyes, Michael Vincent Uy, Henry Wang, Bernard Chua and Jerome Chua.
