JCI Manila's Entrepreneur's Summit or Entrep Summit for short, is an annual project of JCI Manila. The conference was started back in 2008, so currently it is on it's 4th year. The objective of the summit, ever since it's inception, is to promote Entrepreneurship to our society.
The support for the summit has been overwhelming, not only in the attendance of the participants, but also in the speakers. In 2008, we had Cecilo Pedro, Francis Kong, Josiah Go, toby Claudio, among others. In 2009, Vicky Belo, Rudy Ang, Anton Diaz, etc. Last year was the first summit that we had a theme. The theme tas technopreneurship - hence the title of last year's summit was CLICK - Technopreneurs Secret's Revealed. We had Paco Sandejas, Cesar Flores, Dustin Andaya, etc.
This year, the theme is Entrepreneurship and the YOUTH. The reason why JCI Manila focused on the youth this year is because looking back in college, on our senior year, there are several job fairs on campus. Companies flock to universities and students select from a wide array of companies. So for a graduating student, it seems like the only option after college is to pick on company and get a job. BUT! What they are told, is that they have another option, to start their own business. We wanted to open the mind of the students of this option.
We feel that students, or the youth in general, is in the best position to start a business since they have little to risk and everything to gain, as compared to a 50 year old married with 3 kids in schools and mortgage to pay - they have so much to lose when they take the risk.
In this years summit, we are featuring inspirational talks from Donnie Tantoco, Rommel Juan, Tim Yap, Sen Chiz Escudero, Anna Meloto-Wilk, among others. These speakers will share their stories of success as well as failures. Most of the speakers are all young, this way, more than the talks, the particpants will see actual real life examples that age ain't nothing but a number when it comes to starting a business.
The beneficiary of this year summit is PROJECT TOTO of Let's Go Foundation - headed by Jay Bernardo. Similarly, PROJECT TOTO aims to promote Entrepreneurship. However, they realized the cost in actually teaching entrepreneurship, like transportation, lodging, living expense etc. That is why they created TOTO, teaching of teacher on-line. Here, teachers will be able to learn Entrepreneurship on-line. The good thing about this s that every 1,000 will send a teacher through this program And each teacher that goes through the program will be able to teach 400 students PER YEAR! Just imagine the scale.
The summit this year will be at SM Mall of Asia Premier Theater - We are aiming for over 1,000 participants.
The title of the talk is Eureka! Discovering Entrepreneurial Opportunities. We are inviting the students to come to the event and see what other options they have after college.
