JCI Manila - GK Field of Dreams

Field of Dreams

Field of Dreams project is part of JCI- Manila's Dare to C.A.R.E. (Community Awareness and Rehabilitation Effort) for Smokey Mountain program in Tondo, Manila.

There is an estimated 3,000 kids in the Smokey Mountain (garbage) compound. These kids are taught to seek livelihood at an early age by looking for scraps of metal, bottles and recyclable paper to be traded in junk shops and earn money. Education only comes in second or third as their option to address their poverty. At the same time, their right to play, run around, have fun and be normal kids are taken away by their situation.

This project seeks to change all these by promoting a youth sports program for the community by building a baseball and football (multi-sports) field, providing equipment and implementing a proper & sustainable training program. Giving them the right tools and a venue, we shall try to infuse values of teamwork, camaraderie, sportsmanship, discipline, positive thinking in the marginalized youth.

The program aims to empower and enrich the kids’ livesthrough sport which hopefully can lead to educational scholarships, exposure to tournaments and interaction with people from different walks of life.

Hope (pag-asa) is what we want to give to these kids and with your help and support, this is possible. Thanks in advance!

Field of Dreams Program is in partnership with Gawad Kalinga.
